Hoʻoulu provides personal and academic counseling, peer counseling, career and vocational planning, financial and leadership workshops, and assistance in finding opportunities for students to use traditional education in real-world experiences.

HoÊ»oulu also provides stipends to qualifying participants engaged in service-learning, internships, and cooperative education. 

Our mission

The goal of the Hoʻoulu Project is to increase the recruitment, retention, and completion of Native Hawaiian students in all CTE and STEM programs offered at Leeward CC.

 

These programs include: 

 

  • automotive technology

  • business programs

  • culinary arts

  • digital media

  • information/ computer science

  • substance abuse counseling

  • television production

  • teaching

  • all Associate in Science in Natural Sciences degree concentration

Our history

In 1986, The Native Hawaiian Career and Technical Education Program, currently known as The Hoʻoulu Project, was created to develop and establish programs that prepare Native Hawaiians to be a competitive force in the workplace through completion of rigorous and culturally appropriate career and technical education programs.
